After months of late-night coding sessions, early-morning coffee-fueled brainstorming, and feedback from wrestlers in every corner of the community, I’m proud to say our new submission wrestling website is live —but a constant work in progress.
When I first started Beyond the Mat, it was a humble blog with a handful of grainy match photos and a layout that looked like it was coded in a locker room between rounds. But if wrestling teaches you anything, it’s that you’ve got to keep evolving.
The first thing you’ll notice when you land on the new homepage? It feels like wrestling.
We went with a bold, deep color palette inspired by the competition mats I’ve bled on—rich blues, clean whites, and sharp reds that pop. Every page features high-resolution action shots, from split-second triangle chokes to those raw, exhausted smiles after a five-minute grinder.
Typography is cleaner now—big enough to read while you’re standing in line at weigh-ins, but crisp enough to make technique breakdowns feel sharp. And yes, I’ll admit: seeing my own armbar win from 2022 plastered on the homepage the first day we tested it out… well, it was a moment.
We stripped away the clutter and put the important stuff up front. No more hunting through menus—match videos, technique libraries, interviews, and event schedules are right where you need them.
Load times? Faster than a double-leg from a featherweight. Mobile users will love the smooth, thumb-friendly layout. Whether you’re watching match replays in the stands or reading backstage stories between bouts, the site works seamlessly.
Building this wasn’t easy. I can’t count the number of times I left the gym sore, showered, and went straight into a three-hour video call with our designer. Sometimes, I’d be sketching layout ideas on the back of a tournament bracket sheet between matches.
I didn’t just revamp the free content—I doubled down on premium offerings.
